This is really cool (although they could've recycled the Pixelbook brand). I hope there'll be a way to dual boot Windows 11 on this.

Yeah the name is a little clumsy sounding. I think Pixelbook isn't as recognizable as Chromebook.

I guess they don't want the baggage from Chromebook because Chrome is a given Google wants people to think Google == AI the way they think Chrome == internet.

We may not like Copilot but the truth is Google's OS is already delivering what Apple Intelligence promised on laptops and phones. Google has a lot of customers, a good amount of Apple customers seem to want Apple Intelligence. I'm interested in seeing how Google does against Apple (and curious what GoogleBook will cost). It's important to remember that it was in the works long before MacBook Neo was announced and maybe even before it was rumored.

Or Chromebook? It’s the same with the messengers, they can’t settle on a single brand.

This runs Android, not ChromeOS, so the Chromebook name doesn't fit.

That said, Googlebook is a terrible name and reusing Pixelbook would have been way better.

Agreed, Pixelbook does sound better that Googlebook. But maybe it's just a matter of getting used to it

Google TechDeck Pro

After the Pixelbook, I don't think I'm giving their hardware another chance. When through all the choices, back on Mac for that sweet silicon and a solid desktop.

This is the dumbest branding Google has ever come up with and I am here for it. I can't wait for the memes. Is that your Chromebook? No, it's my Googlebook!

Edit: It lists five OEMs, so it's not a Pixel equivalent, not Google-made hardware. Which makes it funnier, actually. Like if Windows laptops from every OEM were called Microsoftbooks.

> Googlebook

My Gobbledygook works just fine

Droidbook

Please tell me you're being sarcastic here?

Their bot-detection page took more than 40 seconds to complete on my low-end smartphone. This sucks.

While I am back to my Surface Laptop 7 after a few weeks with the Neo because the latter wasn't good enough for my usage, I agree it's the coolest Mac right now, the colors are great! I don't really understand why Apple keeps its "more serious" devices mostly color-less, it's a shame.

> the latter wasn't good enough for my usage

Please say more. Specs?

Yes, the battery life was way worse than the Surface, I missed the 120 hz screen more than I thought I would, and the 1 external monitor limit was too annoying. It's still a great device for the price.

Thanks for your concise + helpful reply!

It seems that Anthropic is growing so rapidly that they don't really care about losing a few customers here and there with false positives. I still think it's crazy that you can never speak with a human there, even after spending $200/month on their service.

> It seems that Anthropic is growing so rapidly that they don't really care about losing a few customers here and there with false positives.

While I am convinced that anything can be done better, it seems to me, that it it's close to impossible to do this well. If you look at ~customer service provided by ~FAANG (who had decades to build this out, and none of which had to deal with Anthropic level growth) it's never as good as we would like it to be.

Either they are all terribly incompetent at customer service. Or customer service at super big internal company scale, with tons of small-ish customers, is extremely hard.

I can call my ISP and someone will pick up within 5-10 minutes. Sometimes instantly. For a 40 euro/month contract.

These guys have millions of customers. At least in this country fast and competent customer service is the main factor that differentiates them from their competition, which is cheaper but can be a pain in the butt. This seems to be worth the extra 5-10 bucks to millions of people.

You just have to want to.

paying more just means your AI support agent uses Opus instead of Haiku

I cannot imagine Anthropic being able to afford Opus for customer support. They'd be bankrupt within a month.

Do they have human support for their corporate clients, at least?

They do. You get an account executive. And they can help you somewhat. As an example, a friend's startup lost all their access for a day while the AE tried to get them transferred from one kind of plan to another. Looking at it from the outside, it looks like any fast-growing startup just at a pace that is honestly quite unbelievable. They seem ridiculously successful.

I was unable to cancel their pro plan without paying for a missed month first. They kept trying to charge my card for few months.

They're behaving just like the progrsammers afraid of being part of the permanent underclass...

The regulatory body, ARCEP, has been very proactive since 2002 (!) on IPv6. The recent uptick is due to IPv6 obligations bundled in the 5G spectrum licences.

Persona is easy to implement, has all the compliance requirements, and is in line with market prices. ID verification will always be an afterthought, unfortunately.

SCF is still actively maintained, so it's nice that it exists!

The "OneDrive" app definitely has a nice document scanning tool.

This seems like a very, very bad idea.
